One year ago, at the first joint retreat of missionary executives representing the Evangelical Foreign Missions Association and the Interdenominational Foreign Mission Association, an idea that had been shared by many of these men came to fruition. Both groups decided the time was ripe to move ahead with a joint publication that would represent the best in evangelical missionary thinking.
The purpose behind the venture essentially was two-fold: the missions together needed to make available to the Church as a whole the wide range of insights gained from their work throughout the world; they needed to keep each other stimulated and informed in the realm of ideas and practical missionary tactics. A joint board was appointed, which in turn appointed an editorial committee. Serving on the Board of Directors are: C. Gordon Beacham, Vernon Mortenson, Clyde W. Taylor, Edwin L. Frizen, Jr., Lester P. Westlund, Kenneth R. Adams, F. Eldon Durant, and Louis L. King, chairman.
To publish the new quarterly, the board decided to incorporate under the name of Evangelical Missions Information Service. It is the aim of this periodical to contribute both to the intellectual stimulation of missionaries and to their spiritual growth and encouragement. The long history of evangelical work around the world, represented by these two associations, stands behind this new venture. In order that our readers may know the thoroughly Biblical and evangelical nature of this publication, we are publishing below the Statement of Faith included in the Constitution of Evangelical Missions Information Service, Inc.
The divine inspiration and infallibility of Holy Scripture as originally given, and its supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.
The unity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit in the Godhead.
The universal sinfulness and guilt of human nature since the Fall, rendering man subject to God’s wrath and condemnation.
Redemption from the guilt, penalty, and power of sin only through the sacrificial death (as our representative and substitute) of Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Son of God.
The bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
The necessity of the work of the Holy Spirit to make the death of Christ effective to the individual sinner, granting him repentance toward God and faith in Jesus Christ.
The indwelling and work of the Holy Spirit in the believer.
The personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ.
