Summary

Stark, a prolific sociologist in the realm of religion, critiques a couple of well accepted theories using recent surveys of global religion. He debunks the secularization theory (that the entire world is marching toward secularization) and other commonly held assumptions about religion in our world. To draw these conclusions, he uses Gallup’s World Poll. The issue at stake here is not “Christianity” but “religiosity.”

This book contains some contrarian views that will challenge the reader. “Secularists have been predicting the imminent demise of religion for centuries. They have always been wrong—and their claims today are no different. It is their unshakeable faith in secularization that may be the most “irrational” of all beliefs.” Kindle location 4163
