Made for Mission
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations [help the people to learn of Me, believe in Me, and obey My words], baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always [remaining with you perpetually—regardless of circumstance, and on every occasion], even to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28: 19-20
God has given every believer, in every one of our ministries, a mission — to go into the world and share the Good News about Jesus. The Amplified translation of Matthew 28 goes into detail with very clear directives: Go! Make! Help! Baptize! Teach!
Jesus lays out his intentions for us and yet evangelism and mission often go forgotten. Maybe we don’t feel equipped. Maybe we don’t understand how to use our gifts. Maybe we feel like it’s all a lost cause. “Living life on mission” has become a phrase that feels distant and meant for only a select few. We think mission is for people who quit their jobs and travel to remote villages to share the Gospel. Or it’s for pastors and people who have spent years studying the Bible. That is simply not true! Mission is for everyone!
God has given each of us unique gifts with a plan and purpose for his Kingdom. The Great Commission was given to all of us to fulfill. Where do we start? Love. In 2 Corinthians 5:14, Paul says, “For the love of Christ compels us.” This is our motivator to fulfill our mission. Because God cares about his people, we need to care too. And when we love God’s people, we will be moved to action.
Isaiah 6:8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I. Send me!”
God isn’t waiting for you to feel qualified. Whomever he calls, he qualifies. He just asks for a willing heart. Here I am God. Send me!
Our mission is the same mission regardless of where we are in the world. It is to invite people into God’s family. I challenge you to challenge the people in your ministry to think about your mission plan and how you are sharing the Good News with people locally and globally. You can get started by taking a quiz at madeformission.church/findyourmission to discover which areas of outreach align best with your personalities, skills, and interests.
Once you know more about yourself and your teams, get a plan to put into action! Declare here and now that you will be compelled by God’s love to say “Here I am! Send me!”
