Michael VanHuis, Executive Director, Missio Nexus: Michael has been with Missio Nexus since September 2015 and serves in the role of Executive Director. Michael has served on the mission field in Ghana, West Africa, has helped lead the operations of two different mission agencies, served as missions pastor, and a manager of a private family foundation. Michael serves as an advisor to mission agencies and churches, oversees Missio Nexus research efforts, and the Missio Nexus Innovation Fund. Michael earned a Masters of Global Leadership from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California. He and his wife, Laura, have five children and currently reside in Aurora, Illinois.

Derek Gard, Sales Manager – Special Markets, Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Company: In 2003, on a last-minute request from his pastor, Derek visited the Dominican Republic for the first time on a short-term mission trip. During that trip, God infected Derek’s heart for cross-cultural ministry. A short while later, Derek and his family served with GO Ministries in the Dominican Republic for 5 years. Facilitating mission trips, fundraising coach, and hub director were just a few of the hats Derek wore while on the mission field. Currently, with Brotherhood Mutual, Derek assists Mission Sending Organization’s in building custom risk management programs.

Kyle Johnson, Associate Corporate Counsel, Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Company:  Kyle Johnson serves as Associate Corporate Counsel at Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Company. Kyle works within Brotherhood Mutual’s legal department and assists Christian ministries with legal risk management issues, focusing on child protection, worker screening, religious freedom, and insurance coverage. After receiving his bachelor’s degree from Ball State University, Kyle received his Juris Doctor degree from the Indiana University McKinney School of Law in 2012 and received his CPCU designation in 2018. Kyle attends Pathway Community Church in Fort Wayne, IN, serving in the first impressions and adoption/foster care ministries.
