The Great Commission: Big & Important!

Posted on September 20, 2014 by Mary Kay PalgutaJanuary 21, 2016

Missio Nexus is passionate about taking the gospel to every people, tribe tongue and nation that has yet to have opportunity to hear a clear presentation of the good news of Jesus. That is why we exist. That is why we band together as many as possible Great Commission focused agencies and churches in an extensive North American network. We desire to serve and network together like-minded, global-reaching organizations to complete the Great Commission task.

But let’s not fool ourselves; the task before us is huge. When looked at from every missional angle, whether it be the remaining languages without Scripture, people groups without disciple-makers, towns without churches, or individuals who have yet to hear, the task before us is formidable. The challenge is really big.

This task is also vitally important. The cause of Christ is worthy of our fullest efforts because the gospel of Christ is man’s only hope. We can never loose sight of the fact that fallen man is at enmity with God and condemned to eternal separation from him outside of the saving grace of Christ. The Apostle Paul says it clearly in Titus 3:3-7. Though you may already be familiar with that passage, I repeat it here so as to not miss the gospel’s vital importance.

3 For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. 4 But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

By joining together these two realities – both the immensity of the remaining task coupled with its vital importance – it is clear why Missio Nexus chose this tagline:

The Great Commission is too big for anyone to accomplish alone and too important not to try to do together.

The genius of the North American mission movement is that there are so many (literally thousands) groups, organizations and churches that have God-given focuses and specialties designed to enhance the completion of the Great Commission. But the strength and effectiveness of this movement is strongly enhanced when these separate entities learn, confer and work together.

Missio Nexus facilitates those very things. Through our programs, products and services, we foster the togetherness and synergy needed to help any mission entity not attempt to accomplish the Great Commission alone.

We have a really big and important task. Let’s accomplish it together.
