Development 101 – Helping vs. Hurting
Stephen Bauman, World Relief
April 23, 2009
As the center of gravity of our faith shifts to the Global South, Western organizations, churches and individuals must respond by shifting towards better ways of helping the suffering, marginalized and oppressed around the world. No church or mission engages the poor and vulnerable around the world with a plan to make life more difficult for them in the long run. But good intentions are not the same as positive results. How can we insure our efforts to engage the poor actually help instead of hurt?
Stephan will present thoughts on development as mission, models for empowerment, and reciprocal transformation. Stephan Bauman is the Senior Vice President of Programs for World Relief.
