Summary
The book shares the stories of four persons from Myanmar (formerly Burma) who personally encountered Jesus in the Buddha Belt (comprised of Thailand, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Tibet, and Bhutan that are dominated by the religion and culture of conservative Buddhism). The stories relate to the Jesus encounters of Aung (a former Buddhist monk), Bawi (a comfortable Christian), and two urban immigrants (Lin and Tha Gyi). The author does not use the real names of the four individuals in the stories. What is common among these four untold stories is that they all “risk everything to follow Jesus in the midst of war, racial tension, murder plots, betrayal, drug addiction, forbidden love, and the dark side of Christian mission” (page xxi). Each story takes three chapters to narrate how they encountered Jesus, while a fourth chapter for each story shares their personal views on Jesus and their insights on mission.
