Summary
The book explores the loaded concepts of church and parachurch that the author argues come from “a fundamental deficit in ecclesiology” (page 6). In the first half of this exploration, the book reviews and reflects on the current state of the church in its various forms, and of the history and theology of church and parachurch, and their related models, relationships, and challenges. For the rest of the book, the author presents the need to go beyond the current state of church and proposes “a comprehensive new way of thinking for the church for the twenty-first century and beyond” (page 140) through the concept of missional extensions.
