| 6th. We pray for Sudan and South Sudan: two conflicts with no clear path to peace. In Sudan, peace talks stall while fighting in Khartoum and Darfur continues. International efforts are fragmented, outsiders continue to fuel the war, and millions are displaced from their homes. Churches and believers serve quietly at great risk. In South Sudan, the “simmering pot” threatens to boil over—political rivalry and local clashes persist, humanitarian needs remain unmet. Pray for real peace, for unity among peacemakers, and for churches to embody hope and steadfastness. Pray for Sudanese and South Sudanese believers to persist in faith and mercy, despite threat and loss. Pray that the church’s witness will stand against the structures of sin in both these places. Psalm 34:18 — “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” 7th. The Sahel’s increasingly ungovernable spaces stretch across Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, and beyond. Jihadist groups and criminal networks exploit the vacuum; entire villages are erased (link), populations flee, and violence fractures families and faith. Gospel workers in the North of Nigeria are specifically being targeted and hunted. Pray for safety forGospel workers, for the restoration of villages and families, and for new movements among youth. Isaiah 58:10 — “If you spend yourselves on behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness…” 8th. After the end of the conflict between Iran and Israel, Tehran’s reprisals against perceived spies, opponents of the regime, and those it views as a threat have risen sharply. People are simply being taken from their homes in the night.Believers are under increasing threat. Some whisper of change, others only of fear. Pray for the hidden church—for protection, courage, and resilience. Pray for new Persian seekers, both inside and in diaspora, to find trustworthy witnesses. Romans 8:35, 37 — “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? … in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” 9th. Haiti’s government has turned to drones in its war against the gangs: hundreds have been killed or injured. Whether this will lead to a turning point in the war is uncertain; the gangs, too, could obtain drones. Pray for believers caught in the midst of the anarchy, for the protection of the vulnerable, for aid workers and pastors holding fragile communities together. Psalm 82:3–4 — “Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.” 10th. Believers in India have to cope with the trauma of persecution and grapple with issues of forgiveness. The most prominent recent example: after years in prison, the leader of the mob that murdered missionary Graham Staines and his sons is released; some of the mob have since come to faith (CT). Some believers have spoken out about how they have forgiven the murderers. Pray for the witness of forgiveness, for healing in communities torn by violence, and for courage among those living out reconciliation in hostile environments. Matthew 5:44 — “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” 11th. Pray for the spiritually hungry in China. Temple tourism is on the rise (Sixth Tone): commodifying a blend of mysticism, consumerism, and fleeting rituals. As temples fill with tourists and seekers, pray for young Chinese drawn to spirituality to also encounter Christ. Pray for discernment among Gospel workers engaging “light touch spirituality.” Isaiah 55:2–3 — “Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy?… Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live.” 12th. Syria’s sanctions lifted; Gulf States invest; fragile hopes stir. Reconstruction brings new actors and opportunities—but many fear money will entrench old powers, not heal wounds. Pray for the tiny Christian minority, for wisdom as the country reopens, and for the church to offer reconciliation amid new alliances. Jeremiah 29:7 — “Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you… Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” |
