| Sending this on Saturday to include the 22nd, which was omitted last week. —Ed. 22nd. Pray for a breakthrough that will bring about the end of fighting in Sudan. With the fall of El Fasher and the consolidation of the RSF over Darfur, fighting between the RSF and the SAF has shifted to Kordofan, where it has widened and intensified. There have been clashes on multiple fronts, “some of the heaviest engagements seen in Kordofan in a year and more” (SWM). Meanwhile satellite views of El Fasher point to mass graves, burned bodies, and no activity in markets or water points–clear signs of massacres. ( Al Jazeera). During a meeting at the White House, Saudi’s MBS urged President Trump to do something substantive about Sudan, and the White House has said this is being investigated. “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering…” (Hebrews 10:23–25) We believe that Sudan is on God’s heart, and have hope for the great shalom he wants the Sudanese to experience. “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.” (Matthew 5:9) Pray for external actors with influence to labor for the peace of Sudan. “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” (Psalm 51:10) Pray for nations complicit in war to repent and work for peace. “Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.” (Psalm 82:3–4) Pray for voices to be raised on behalf of those who are being massacred. 23rd. Pray for Somalia, and especially for the underground believers. “A shaky front line barely holds back the ‘dogs of war,'” notes one report: the military is struggling to hold off al-Shabaab, which has taken over a third of Somalia and largely encircled the capital since June. Foreign embassies have withdrawn their staff; “absent a dramatic change in direction, likely near-term scenarios include the collapse of the federal government and an al-Shabaab takeover, whether through negotiation or military action.” Pray for this “change of direction.” “A great multitude… from every nation, tribe, people and language” (Revelation 7:9) Pray for Somalis to be among the redeemed. “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me” (Psalm 23:4) Pray for courage and faith for believers in danger. “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3) Pray for healing of those who have lost family, homes, and hope. “If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.” (1 Peter 4:14) Pray for believers in Somalia to be reminded of the blessing they have received, and be a bold yet discerning blessing to those around them. 24th. Pray for the believers and churches of western Africa, especially in Mali and Nigeria. Waves of attacks have led to killings and kidnappings of people ranging from school girls to church worshipers and leaders to an Emirati prince. Ransoms are being demanded (from $69,000 for church members to a 50 million euro ransom paid for the Emirati). Pray for the endurance and witness of the church in West Africa, and the expansion of the Gospel. “Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you” (Psalm 50:15) Pray for rescue for the kidnapped. “How long, O Lord, shall the wicked exult?” (Psalm 94:3) Pray for an end to violence and cruelty. “I saw… the souls of those who had been slain… ‘How long… before you judge?’” (Revelation 6:9-10) Pray for righteous justice and endurance. “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” (Matthew 5:44) Pray for Christlike love toward those who hate, persecute, and attack believers. 25th. Christians in Bangladesh are alarmed because of bombings of churches and a Catholic school. In the midst of ongoing uncertainty and tensions, pray for the believers to be salt and light in their communities. “For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation.” (Psalm 62:1) Pray for inner peace for believers living under threat. “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1) Pray for Bangladeshi believers to experience miraculous help. “If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you.” (John 15:20) Pray for those suffering to know they share in Christ’s fellowship. “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:35). Pray for for believers to show Christ’s love amid turmoil. 26th. Pray for the churches and believers in China. China faces a thorny demographic problem: an imbalance of men and women, many don’t want to marry (due to the economic situation), and those that do don’t want to have more than one child, or any at all. The churches in China are faced with challenges for their members to find people to marry; many house churches are “playing matchmaker.” Pray for believers to marry believers and raise believing children. “He commanded our ancestors… that the next generation would know them… so they should set their hope in God” (Psalm 78:5–7) Pray for a new generation in China to set its hope in the Lord. “Children are a heritage from the Lord.” (Psalm 127:3) Pray for believing parents to see children for the blessing that they are. “In your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed” (Genesis 22:18) Pray that the children of Chinese believers will be part of the fulfillment of the promise to Abraham, that through his spiritual descendants (through Christ) all nations on earth will be blessed. “And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.” (Joel 2:28) Pray this over the next generation in China, and earnestly ask God for a new spiritual awakening among China’s millions. 11/26 27th. A story about “women giving birth alone in the Kashmiri mountains” highlights the lives of the Gujjar and Bakarwal herders in a very remote area on the border of India and Pakistan (Guardian). These is an example of the situation of the unreached. Pray for believers who would be a blessing to these peoples. Women giving birth alone in the Kashmiri mountains—life of Gujjar, Bakarwal herders. “Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage.” (Psalm 2:8) Pray for believers to be given a vision for reaching the peoples of distant and difficult places. “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news.” (Isaiah 52:7) Ask that believers crossing borders will carry peace and salvation. “I make it my ambition to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named.” (Romans 15:20) Pray for Gospel workers to take bold steps. “My heart’s desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved.” (Romans 10:1) Pray this for the peoples of Kashmir. 28th. Pray for the children caught up in DR Congo’s seemingly endless conflict: “cannon fodder,” writes the Guardian. A third of the armed groups in the DRC are children. The Guardian interviewed 14 of them. Read this interview and pray both for these children by name, and for the many hundreds of others they represent. The war is still simmering, despite a few attempts at peace. “Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.” (Amos 5:24) Pray for justice to be done on behalf of the children recruited to be soldiers. “Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.” (Psalm 82:4) Pray for believers who will work to rescue these children from the conflict. For those children who have suffered trauma in the war, pray that the Church be a place of safety, acceptance, and counsel where children are loved and cared for. “He has told you, O man, what is good… to do justice, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God”_ (Micah 6:8). Pray for governments and churches to act righteously. |
