| 16th. We pray for an end to the wars currently being fought. The world’s conflict zones have increased 65% since 2021. Over 5% of the world’s places are now under conflict–“a landmass nearly double the size of India.” While Sudan and Ukraine are the most intense, well-known, and best-documented war zones currently, armed conflict is being experienced in numerous countries. Africa’s “conflict corridor” has doubled in size since 2021 and spreads across the Sahel and East Africa. “The Lord puts an end to wars throughout the earth.” (Psalm 46:9) Pray for peacemakers and mediators to be raised up in every conflict zone, empowered with wisdom and courage. “The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; he turns it wherever he will.” (Proverbs 21:1) Ask God to turn leaders from pride and vengeance toward mercy and restraint. “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3) Pray for women and children wounded by war—those widowed, orphaned, or abused—to find safety and restoration. “You will hear of wars and rumors of wars… but see that you are not alarmed.” (Matthew 24:6) Pray that amid turmoil, the Good News of Christ’s Kingdom spreads with unshakable hope. 17th. We pray for peace to settle over many places where sparks of war could yet ignite: the possibility of another war in northern Ethiopia, between the government and Tigray; the always looming possibilities of conflict over North Korea or Taiwan; the tensions in eastern DR Congo and in South Sudan; the rising possibility that some governments in West Africa (such as Mali) could fall to Islamic militants. “You still the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, and the tumult of the peoples.” (Psalm 65:7) Pray for the Lord to quiet the restless nations and hold back new wars. “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.” (Matthew 5:9) Ask that God’s people in Ethiopia, the Koreas, Taiwan, and West Africa act as reconcilers. “Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.” (Micah 4:3) Pray for regional leaders to pursue negotiation and peace. “Let your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:10) Pray for the reign of Christ to bring stability to places on the brink. 11/18. We pray for wisdom and discernment for Kingdom workers to find ways into China. Beijing has been opening its doors to visa-free travel from certain countries–and allowing many of its citizens to travel to other countries–while sometimes issuing exit bans and restricting some from travel at all. Not every country is getting visa-free access, and thus the makeup of foreign tourists to China is changing–Americans, for example, are much slower to return. Perhaps non-Western Kingdom workers will have far more access in the future. While China has a large church, many parts of the country lack any Gospel witness. Pray for the Spirit to move on people–whether inside or outside–to enter China’s less-reached regions as a Gospel light. “Lift up your heads, O gates! and be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.” (Psalm 24:7) Pray for China’s open doors to welcome those bearing the light of Christ. “Pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” (Matthew 9:38) Ask the Spirit to stir new workers—especially from the Global South—to enter China’s unreached places. “The earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.” (Habakkuk 2:14) Pray for Gospel witness to saturate every province. “Be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.” (Matthew 10:16) Pray for discernment and courage for Kingdom workers navigating surveillance and suspicion. 19th. One story tells that India has reopened its embassy in Kabul, “choosing engagement over isolation.” Pray that new opportunities for travel and connections between India and Afghanistan will arise, with the possibility of the Gospel spreading between the two. “May God be gracious to us and bless us… that your way may be known on earth, your saving power among all nations.”(Psalm 67:1–2) Pray that renewed contact between India and Afghanistan leads to Kingdom connections. “He made from one man every nation of mankind… that they should seek God.” (Acts 17:26–27) Pray for divine appointments among travelers, traders, and diplomats. “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news.” (Isaiah 52:7) Ask that believers crossing borders will carry peace and salvation. “The Lord will go before you, and the God of Israel will be your rear guard.” (Isaiah 52:12) Pray for protection and favor on those carrying the Gospel between these nations. 20th. German Chancellor Merz announced it is time for Syrian refugees (1.3 million) to leave Germany and return home–but also, “the church in Germany has been transformed over the last several years because of this surge in refugees.” Pray for the world’s refugees, who are often on the move and uprooted, not welcomed long anywhere. Pray especially that believers will express the love of Christ to the refugees near them. “He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry; the Lord sets prisoners free.” (Psalm 146:7) Pray for mercy and welcome for refugees forced to move again and again. “When a stranger sojourns with you… you shall love him as yourself.” (Leviticus 19:33–34) Ask that believers see displaced neighbors with compassion, not suspicion. “For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come.” (Hebrews 13:14) Pray for the church to live as a pilgrim people, showing hospitality and eternal hope. “I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” (Matthew 25:35) Pray for congregations in Germany and beyond to keep open hearts even when governments close doors. 21st. CT has a story of how “Hindu nationalists attack missionaries in north India.” The story says this is a “rare occurrence in Muslim-majority Jammu & Kashmir,” and that’s true. But this kind of harassment does happen in many other places, especially where anti-conversion legislation has passed, and the story is representative of regular life for Kingdom workers. (Note that for this story, “missionary” = local believers doing evangelistic work.) Pray for believers in India to endure and persevere despite persecution, and for the Gospel to continue to spread widely. CT “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?” (Psalm 27:1). Pray for courage for believers facing hostility and anti-conversion laws. “Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.” (Romans 12:12) Pray for endurance for missionaries and local evangelists under threat. “If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you.” (John 15:20) Pray for those suffering to know they share in Christ’s fellowship. “Those who sow in tears shall reap with shouts of joy.” (Psalm 126:5) Pray that the Gospel continues to spread through faithful witness, even amid suffering. |
