Why Not You!

By Dwayne Cannon

Sitting alone on the couch, I had a thought! Many of you know what I am referring to, but if you don’t, let me explain. When you are not thinking of anything, and all of a sudden, an image in your mind appears. It’s as if someone leaned forward and whispered in your ear. You almost turn to see if someone was in the room with you, and at that point, you know. You know that this is a message you need to pay attention to right then. Not a thought to pass off as random. Not a memory from past experience, but a word from your Creator! A communication from God in which you must respond.

For Moses, it was a burning bush; for Elijah, it was a whisper; for the shepherds, it was a host of angels. However God chooses to speak to you personally, you need to listen. Again, for me, it was a thought that was so real in my mind, I thought it was audible. Now let me tell you what that thought was.

I have been a salesman selling construction materials for over 29 years. As I was making a mid-six-figure income and trying to live modestly. I was working my way to retirement as soon as I possibly could. I wanted to get out of the hustle and bustle of life and retire to the mountains. The goal was to buy a house with a view and a back porch, and watch the sunrise with my favorite cup of coffee in hand. Then sit in the hot tub, relaxing while watching the sun go back down.

Is there anything wrong with that picture? For most people, that would be a great end to a life of hard work! To most people, that would seem to be deserved and a reward for a life well lived. For most people, this would be a great ending to a wonderful story!

Well, I found out abruptly that day on the couch, I am not most people! As if God had spoken aloud to me personally, He said, “You are not going to retire! You are coming to work for Me full-time, sharing the gospel with the children of this world! It is not going to be easy! It is going to be painful! It is going to take all of your strength at times! It is going to take every ounce of faith you can muster!”

What do you say to the God of the universe when He says to do something? You say Yes, Sir, and that is exactly what I said! At that precise moment, He finished His statement of what I was to do, “I will be right there with you all the way! You will never regret following Me!”

The next week, I walked away from my job and focused my life on the greatest opportunity in the world to share the gospel. Jesus said to let the little children come to Him, and that to enter the kingdom of heaven with childlike faith. Jesus cares for Children and they are under attack from the evil one. Their little bodies and minds are being captured by the enemy.

Most Christians come to know Christ between the ages of 4 and 14, around 85%. These kids are critical to the Great Commission! We as Christians must realize there is an absolute war raging for these little souls, and we are going to spend the rest of our lives fighting to save everyone we can! Why Not You!
