Summary

Far Off Saints by Ivan Veldhuizen is a four-week introductory study on missions that consists of five readings per week along with daily questions. A small group Bible study and a video message are included on a weekly basis. Additionally, QR codes are available which link to additional information about missions and recommendations for further reading.

Overall, Far Off Saints emphasizes God’s heart for the lost, focusing on application of the great commission to each of us. The book walks the reader through introductory information regarding people who don’t know God today, God’s plan to reach the world, and the role of the church and each of us in God’s plan. The book outlines involvement in missions from the perspective of the local church which is ideally involved in identifying, sending, and supporting missionaries. On a personal basis, the reader is also challenged to consider greater involvement in missions as someone who goes or someone who stays. Throughout the chapters, the reader is challenged to put the concepts of the book into action. Guided questions and written reflections help the reader to consider and follow God’s leading in their lives. The author’s experience in missions and as a pastor come into play as he shares inspiring examples of God at work in the world. Overall, the reader will come away with an expanded biblical view of missions and the challenge to put it all into practice.
