| 9/28. Pray for the ministries attempting to bring humanitarian aid to Sudan. Both the SAF and the RSF are continuing to fight; the RSF is pressing deeper into El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, and solidifying its hold over the West. Relief work and ministry is very difficult inside the borders of Sudan (especially within Darfur); there are many refugees outside Sudan (e.g. in Chad) in terribly tragic circumstances as well. Psalm 46:1 – “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Pray for Sudanese caught in war and displacement. Isaiah 58:7 – “Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house?” Pray for aid ministries to embody God’s compassion. 2 Corinthians 9:8 – “God is able to bless you abundantly, so that… you will abound in every good work.” Ask God to multiply relief efforts. Hebrews 6:10 – “God is not unjust to forget your work… in ministering to the saints.” Pray for encouragement for weary workers. 9/29. Join with those praying through Operation World in praying for Palestine & Gaza today. To quote OW: Palestinian Christians find themselves attacked or betrayed from all sides. They are regarded as Palestinians by Israel and as western collaborators by extremist Muslims, and they are generally ignored or abandoned by the global church. Yet they trace their roots back to previous Islamic times. Their numbers in Palestine itself, have declined at an accelerating rate, largely due to immigration. The pool to leave a strong, with a vastly greater quality of life available elsewhere, and with increasing pressures from Israel on one side and Islamist on the other. Pray that those who remain might continue to stay strong in both their Christian faith and in their commitment to live out the gospel in very difficult pray that they might also know God’s protection. Arab evangelicals number several thousand in 30 churches, most on the West Bank. They feel isolated and rejected by Jews, Arabs, traditional Christians, and even western Evangelical. The formation and operations of the Council of Local Evangelical Churches in the Holy Land are very positive developments. The loss of leadership through immigration is very damaging. Bethlehem Bible College plays a key role in training, new leaders, but face as many challenges. Pray for this ministry, and pray for courage, endurance, and the spirit of love for evangelicals in Palestine. Pray, especially for believers from a Muslim background to stay strong and to grow in their new faith. Psalm 121:7-8 – “The Lord will keep you from all harm… the Lord will watch over your coming and going.” 2 Thessalonians 3:5 – “May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.” John 17:15 – “My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.” 9/30. We continue to pray for an end to the flare-ups of fighting in DR Congo and South Sudan. These are not full-blown civil wars, but parts of the two countries are not under the control of the central government, and people living in those regions find themselves living with violent militias. Both DR Congo & South Sudan are strongly Christian, and churches and believers are being impacted in the fighting—pray that peace would enable both to be strong mission sending bases! Psalm 10:17-18 – “You hear the desire of the afflicted… to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed.” Pray for justice for those trapped under militias. Isaiah 2:4 – “They shall beat their swords into plowshares.” Pray for transformation of fighters. Romans 15:13 – “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing.” Pray for hope among civilians in war zones. Nahum 1:7 – “The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him.” 10/1. Pray for the many believers and Gospel workers in India and Pakistan who have been impacted by the floods. Over 6 million were affected after heavier-than-usual monsoons; there are reports of villages washed away and church leaders who have died or lost their families. Pray for believers to be a blessing to their neighbors during this time, and for the Kingdom to expand as God brings good out of tragedy. Psalm 29:10-11 – “The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord sits enthroned as king forever.” Pray over devastated regions. Isaiah 43:2 – “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.” Pray for God’s presence with the displaced. Mark 4:39-41 – “He rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Quiet! Be still!’” Pray for peace after the storms. James 1:27 – “Religion… is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress.” Pray for churches caring for bereaved families. 10/2. Pray that China’s visa-free policies and efforts to become an international influence will also–as with Saudi Arabia–open a doorway for the Gospel to flow into and out of China. Colossians 4:3 – “Pray… that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ.” Pray for visa-free openings to become Gospel openings. Revelation 3:8 – “Behold, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut.” Pray that these doors stay open long enough for seeds to be planted. Acts 19:10 – “All the residents of Asia heard the word of the Lord.” Pray for wide Gospel spread. Proverbs 16:9 – “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” Pray for God’s guidance of travelers and workers. 10/3. Pray for the believers in Myanmar, where the junta is surging an effort in advance of the end-of-year elections, and regaining ground against rebels, but tenacious resistance continues to hold on. Conscription of 75,000 new troops and new drones help, but inexperienced conscripts and morale problems make us ask whether the junta can sustain this surge past December. In the meantime, believers will be stuck in the midst of surging violence. Psalm 9:9 – “The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.” Pray for believers under violence. Matthew 24:13 – “The one who endures to the end will be saved.” Pray for endurance in persecution. Isaiah 26:3 – “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you.” Pray for peace in chaos. 2 Thessalonians 3:3 – “The Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.” 10/4. Pray for the continued opening of Saudi Arabia. The Crown Prince continues to clip the authority of the clerics and religious police. By allowing a certain amount of social (if not political) liberality, and opening to foreign tourists and business startups, Saudi Arabia has become more open to the Gospel. Praise God for the work of many Gospel influencers, including people like Filipino construction workers and maids, over the years. Isaiah 60:3 – “Nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.” Pray for Saudis to be drawn to Christ. Psalm 67:1-2 – “May God be gracious to us… that your way may be known on earth, your saving power among all nations.” Matthew 13:31-32 – The mustard seed parable—pray for migrant workers’ witness to grow into a great tree. Romans 15:20 – “I make it my ambition to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named.” Pray for Gospel workers to take bold steps. |
