We are in the midst of an industry wide discussion that we have titled the Shared Foundations Initiative. This discussion encompasses churches, sending organizations, member care personnel, and care agencies. The goal is to determine best practices, shared definitions, and hear from across our industry whether we need member care certification.

Presenters:

Vern Salter has spent over 30 years as a vocational Christian worker, both stateside and overseas. Having received help and care in times of crises, I value the “below the waterline” work of counseling, as well as the “at the waterline” work of adopting soul care practices, relational reconciliation, and healthy rhythms in vocational ministry. With an MA in Clinical Counseling from Colorado Christian University, I blend pastoral and professional care in my perspective on providing care to cross cultural workers. Trained in EMDR, Gottman Marriage Therapy, and Soul Care, I bring a broad scope to member care work. I am married to Janell, and have three adult children. Living in Colorado Springs, CO, we marvel at the beauty of God’s creation around us daily. He is currently the Director of Care and Special Projects, and the Director of JPI, at MTI in Palmer Lake CO.

Kimberly Drage is the Vitality Team Lead for Novo UK and the Deputy Director of the John Powell Institute at Mission Training International. As a leader, researcher, coach and collaborator, she devotes herself to supporting the vital role of organizational health in global worker well-being. She has been ministering overseas (in Asia and Europe) since 2006 and currently lives in Scotland with her husband, Dan, and two daughters.
