Oscar Muriu

Senior Pastor
Nairobi Chapel in Kenya

Oscar has a BS in Zoology from the University of Delhi, India and a MDiv in Biblical Studies from the African International University. He presently pastors a congregation in Nairobi and leads a church planting movement of 90 churches, the bulk of which are in Kenya; but others around Africa include Rwanda, Botswana, Malawi, Zambia, Ghana, Liberia, and Ethiopia. The mission of these churches is to “Grow D.E.E.P. to reach W.I.D.E.”

Oscar has a 3-fold passion. First is to raise up a legacy of leaders for the next generation. A personal conviction draws from Matthew 9:37 “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.” He therefore feels that his primary calling in life is to raise up leaders, especially African leaders, for the work of Christ worldwide. A second passion is to aggressively plant churches that plant churches. The churches present target is to plant 300 churches by 2020; with 210 of them in Kenya; 60 in the rest of Africa (one in each capital city of Africa); and 30 off the continent of Africa in the gateway cities of the world (London, Delhi, Sydney, Hong Kong, Chicago and others). A third passion is to stand alongside those in need in the battle against endemic poverty in Africa that is driven by poor governance, corruption and the abuse of human rights. The Nairobi Chapel is involved in many poverty intervention programs. Oscar has been married to his wife Beatrice for 30 years. She serves alongside him at the church in the Children’s ministry. Together they have 6 daughters, three of whom are natural born, and 3 adopted.
