Data on diversity in North American missions staffing.

Diversity in North American missions remains an ongoing topic of conversation. There are many reasons why it remains challenging. Our desire is to truly see all people mobilized to reach all the nations. Yet sizeable obstacles still exist in realizing that goal.

Many historic mission agencies have sought to find new methods of mobilization and recruitment to draw a more diverse mission force. But cultural nuances, local church priorities, community-specific needs and issues, mission funding and organization structures and process create barriers to seeing a broader mission force mobilized.

We are grateful for many missionaries from North America’s white community that have been mobilized and continue to be sent to the unreached. People from this community still need to go to the harvest field! But we also need to continue to work on new ways to mobilize all of the family of God for global missions.

This may mean new organizations and structures need to be created. It may mean deeper relationships that are intentionally built to disciple communities less represented in the landscape of global mission need to be formed. New culturally appropriate training and resources may need to be utilized to encourage missions involvement from a wider, more diverse, perspective. 

Change must begin at the local church level and needs to be complimented with new innovative ideas in sending and supporting long-term missions from communities that have not been as represented in our great commission community. The global church is rising up and taking a role in missions today like no time in history.  Is it not now time for North America to also see the whole church mobilized?
