Urban SHIFT: Navigating a Networked World

Workshop Track: Global Strategies

Primary Audience: People ministering to the diaspora in urban settings

While the Gospel has not changed, rapid social transformation has produced a new environment for world missions.

The old strategy of deploying a western missionary overseas to live in a single village for decades, while still needed, is no longer the optimum approach for the Great Commission. However, there are other simple, scalable, and inexpensive strategies that are being successfully employed.

For example, with the mission field coming to America’s cities, several metro diaspora collaborations have formed to make disciples and plant churches among unreached people groups, who can then reproduce back in their homelands. This workshop will offer practical steps for launching (or strengthening) metro diaspora coalitions in cities across America. ObjectivesI. Understand how the world has changed but the new situation is an opportunityII. Understand that the mission field has come to America’s citiesIII. Offer a simple, scalable, and inexpensive response through Metro CollaborationsIV. Explain how the training and deployment of former prisoners can be key to success
