Summary
The book argues that “Ephesians 2 offers a radical vision of human glory and peace that challenges cycles of shame and violence—from the Roman Empire to the contemporary world” (page xxi). It answers the basic question, “What does it mean to be human?” To answer this, the book integrates the contributions of early Christians, the global church, social sciences, and the biblical narrative, exploring how Jesus Christ is the peaceful way of being human for the world that affects identity, relationships, church, and vocation. Since Jesus is the True Human Being who is our peace, who makes peace, and who preaches peace, Christians are called to embody the gospel of peace near and far (i.e., for the world). The book is divided into three sections that follow the subtitles: Glory (part 1); Violence (part 2); and Gospel of Peace (part 3).
