Summary

The book Meditations of a Missions Heart by Gene Daniels is a 40-day devotional focusing on issues important to ‘the mission heart’ whether praying and serving abroad or at home. It is best read on a daily basis so that the depth of each section can be pondered over time. The devotional covers topics from discouragement to sacrifice, unsuspecting sources of misalignment with God, and, most of all, encouragement. The author inspires us with reflections on great figures in scripture and leads us through meditations on heaven “as we stand together with the nations, before the throne in worship.” (page 94) The book provides gentle inspiration and subtle course correction needed to enable the reader to live a life focused on God without getting pulled into the snares and distractions of the world. The devotions poke at the discrepancy between what we say we believe and our inner thoughts, showing us the difference between a mission heart in tune with the Spirit and our own misconceptions.
