Summary
The book presents a field guide for congregations that seek to engage in remissioning, which is “the process of inside-out transformation of the church through discipleship for the sake of our neighbours and world” (page 11). To remission, the book proposes creative destruction (involving intentional disruption, pruning, and death of programs and resources), traditioned innovation (remembering the best of where churches have come from and using the healthiest part of that past for a new future), better discipleship pathways that develop citizens of the kingdom instead of consumers of religious goods and services, adaptive leadership, and new healthy church metrics. The author shares these ideas that come from his ten-year experience in remissioning an established church in addition to his eleven years of planting a church.
