Summary
This edited book is a compendium of 12 chapters from select biblical scholars and missiologists who argue for a theology of mission that is present in the epistle to the Hebrews. The intent of the book is expressed in these words: “This work aims to contribute to a growing body of literature in which all of Scripture is read with a hermeneutic of mission” (page viii). The editors chose to apply this hermeneutic to Hebrews, which has not been considered as a letter that contains a theology of mission. To argue for the presence of missionary theology in the epistle, the edited book presents a fourfold structure: (1) the missionary motive (chapters 1–4); (2) the missionary message (chapters 5–7); (3) the missionary methods (chapters 8–11) of Hebrews; and (4) a review and response (chapter 12) to the first 11 chapters of the book.
