Leith Anderson has been president of the National Association of Evangelicals since 2006, and was the senior pastor of Wooddale Church in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, for 35 years. He regularly teaches in seminaries, addresses evangelical concerns with elected officials, and provides theological and cultural commentary to leading news outlets. He has been published in many periodicals and has written over 20 books. Anderson has a Doctor of Ministry from Fuller Theological Seminary, and is a graduate of Moody Bible Institute, Bradley University and Denver Seminary.
Thabiti Anyabwile serves as Pastor with Anacostia River Church. He has served as an elder and pastor in churches in NC, Washington, D.C. and the Cayman Islands. After a few years as a practicing Muslim, Thabiti was converted under the preaching of the gospel in the Washington, D.C. area. He and his wife, Kristie, have three children. Thabiti is the author of several books, including: Reviving the Black Church; The Life of God in the Soul of the Church; The Gospel for Muslims; What Is a Healthy Church Member?; The Decline of African-American Theology; and The Faithful Preacher. He blogs regularly at The Front Porch and Pure Church.

Kärin Butler Primuth
As one of the few women leading North American mission agencies, Kärin is CEO of visionSynergy, an organization dedicated to developing strategic mission networks that unite the Body of Christ to reach the unreached. Kärin’s vision for collaboration has grown out of 30 years of global ministry experience, having lived in China, India and South Africa and traveled to more than 30 countries. Kärin serves on the Missio Nexus Board, and has an M.A. in Urban Planning from UCLA and a B.S. in Social Policy from Northwestern University. She is married with three young adult children and lives in California.
Dick and Jennifer Brogden have served among Muslims for the last two and a half decades; Mauritania (1992), Kenya (1993-1995), Sudan (1996-2011), Egypt and the Arab World (2012 – present). They helped found the Live Dead movement and now oversee Church Planting for Live Dead in the Arab World and help lead the Live Dead movement globally. Dick is the author of the Live Dead Joy, and the editor of the Live Dead Journal and the Live Dead Journey (all his books are available on Amazon.com). Dick has his PhD in intercultural studies. Dick and Jennifer have two sons, Luke and Zack.
David Pierce is the founder of Steiger International, a worldwide mission organization that is called to reach and disciple the Global Youth Culture for Jesus, and the lead singer of the international rock band No Longer Music. He is a gifted proclamation evangelist, dynamic speaker and missional pioneer. David has taken the message of Jesus to some of “the darkest corners of society”, including closed Islamic countries, terrorist clubs, squatter villages, anarchy festivals, brothels, junkie joints, punk & goth music festivals, Satanist clubs and New Age gatherings.

Theresa Sidebotham is the founding attorney at Telios Law PLLC. Her past as an MK and missionary in Indonesia augments her legal counsel to numerous missions, where she helps improve organizational/HR policy, support religious liberties, conduct investigations, care for victims and members, and minimize litigation exposure.

Ruth began a career in media in 1985 with her first paid print news story. She went on to work for an NBC affiliate in Toledo, then on to radio as an announcer at WCDR in Cedarville, Ohio. In 1990, she worked for the LeSEA Broadcasting Network in FM and shortwave radio as well as television. That was followed by a five-year stint behind the news desk at WUFN in Albion, Michigan until 1996 and then Mission Network News in 1997. Today, Ruth still handles the overall sound and feel of MNN as they use radio and web to bring glory to God by telling the stories of His work around the world through His people in a way that activates the body of Christ to pray, give, and go. She also serves with the Alliance for the Unreached and sits on the board for FMI (Forgotten Missionaries International). Ruth and her husband, Warren, live in Norton Shores, MI. In her spare time, Ruth coaches a high school cross country and track team, is a masters sprinter and sings tenor. Her husband plays a mean jazz guitar and they have three adult children who have flown the coop.

Steve Beirn is the Global Ministries Pastor of Calvary Church in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Calvary Church is a large sending church model that has sent out hundreds of its own members cross culturally. Approximately 3,500 attend Calvary Church on Sunday morning. Steve has served in the local church side of missions for over 35 years. In addition, he has served on the Board of Directors of TEAM for 18 years. He is author of the book, “Well Sent.” It is his desire to permeate the local church with a clear understanding of the Great Commission while building a passionate motivation for completing the task through the widespread use of all its resources.

Kristen Shuler serves as the Senior Vice President of Development at East-West Ministries International. In her ninth year of service with East-West, Kristen provides oversight and strategic direction to East-West’s development, marketing and communications departments and initiatives, including campaign strategies, major/mid-level donor relations strategies, institutional giving, planned giving, events, and direct response marketing. Prior to joining East-West, Kristen served on the mission field across South America, primarily focusing on evangelism and church planting strategies.

Terry Clausen has been with Wycliffe Bible Translators, USA for almost 18 years, working in various aspects of Personnel/HR roles within Wycliffe USA. Terry now serves as the Senior Director of HR People Services. Terry also serves on the Child Safety and Protection Network Board. Her areas of expertise involve staff management, compliance, coaching, risk mitigation, child safety, difficult issues, and merging member care with HR professional care to name a few. Terry’s heart is to serve others through caring professionalism in the field of human resources. When she is not helping others at Wycliffe, she enjoys spending time with family. She has also served as a missions pastor at Bethany Community Church in Seattle and as part of World Vision International’s Child Protection Technical Team, specializing in community-based care for children separated from parental care. She has a B.A. from Pepperdine University and a M.A. in Cross Cultural Studies and International Development from Fuller Theological Seminary.

Alexandra Zamora is a missionary from Costa Rica. She has been in the ministry since 1985, among her contributions to the mission have been to plant churches in Costa Rica, evangelize among the gypsies in Spain, mobilize and train the church in Latin America and Spain and mobilize the Hispanic church in USA. Today Alexandra serves as Hispanic Director for SIM. She is a member of COMIBAN (Ibero-America Missionary Cooperation), member of CMC (Missionary Fellowship in Costa Rica), and Regional Coordinator of The Latin America Theological Fraternity in North America. Her education is in Theology (MA, University of the Americas, Costa Rica), Religions of the World (Haggai Institute, Singapore), Intercultural Missions (MA, Calvin Theological Seminary, Grand Rapids, MI), and Counseling in Biblical Psychology (Ph.D. Christian Center University, Orlando, FL.

Jolene grew up as the daughter of missionaries. She is passionate about missions and has worked mobilizing and training short-term and mid-term mission teams for over 15 years. Jolene has a doctorate in leadership and has done extensive research on generational trends. Her two books, Millennials in Ministry and Daniel Generation, document the challenges and opportunities for Millennials and Generation Z in leadership and ministry roles. Jolene currently works as a speaker and consultant with Leading Tomorrow (www.leadingtomorrow.org). She helps organizations, churches, and mission agencies effectively engage, equip and empower the next generation for kingdom service. Jolene lives with her husband and twin daughters in central North Carolina.

Jenny has been involved in STMs since 1992 and serves as SOE Board Secretary and is an Associate Professor of Missions and Christian Ministries at Taylor University. She directed Taylor’s Lighthouse International Service-Learning Program from 1999-2013 through which she coordinated 88 three-week trips to 24 countries. She has chaired two church mission leadership teams. She earned her BS at Taylor University and her MAR from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School; she is currently a PhD student in missiology at Concordia Theological Seminary, Ft. Wayne, IN. Jenny also serves as a Billy Graham Center Fellow at the Billy Graham Center for Evangelism at Wheaton College.

Bob Klamser is the co-founder and Executive Director of Crisis Consulting International, a non-profit organization that provides security and crisis management services to the global faith-based community. CCI conducts training seminars and consults with organizations on a wide variety of topics related to organizational and member security, especially in dangerous and hostile environments. These services include hostage negotiations, evacuation management, response to extortion, risk assessments, site surveys, etc. Bob has conducted more than 100 international hostage negotiations. Bob is a retired police officer and missions pastor, former chairman of OSAC’s Faith-Based Working Group, and he currently serves as the Missions Security Adviser for Missio Nexus.

The North America Network Assembly is an opportunity for Vision 5:9 members and interested parties to learn about the state of the gospel in the Muslim world and identify how we can collaborate to see effective church planting efforts among all Muslim peoples.
Specifically, we will bring an update on the state of the Gospel among Muslims, a report from the large global consultation hosted by Vision 5:9 in October 2017 and a challenge to be involved in a global prayer and fasting initiative that has great potential to change the face of our work in the Muslim world.
We will then look at our three primary mandates listed below and discuss and plan, in small groups, how we can collaborate over these mandates.
1. Facilitate engagement and effective church planting among all Muslim peoples through the sharing of resources and fruitful practices.
2. Mobilize the global church to provide workers among Muslim peoples.
3. Monitor, assess, and report the progress of God’s Kingdom in the Muslim world to the greater glory of God.

The Short-Term Mission Standards Introductory Workshop (SIW) is conducted by leaders from the Board and staff of the Standards of Excellence in Short-Term Mission (SOE). It’s perfect for those seeking to fulfill an SOE Membership requirement,* for those exploring the possibility of joining SOE, or for those who just want to do an excellent job with their short-term missions! With an emphasis on mutual partnerships and long-term effectiveness, it will provide an overview of Maximum Impact Short-Term Mission Theory (MISTM), and will review each of the Seven Standards of STM best practice. For SOE members, this workshop will also help you understand how to form and manage your own Peer Review Team in order to achieve full SOE Accreditation. The workshop will be interactive, use case studies, and rely on dynamic small group discussions. During this 4-hour session, we’ll be forming a work-group and initiating the relaunch of the Missio Nexus Missionary Training Best Practices project that started in 2012 and then stalled out in 2014. With the advent of the new Missio Nexus Training Cohort, we are developing the relational capital to work together well on a unified document that addresses practices to be followed, current examples of that practice in action in the marketplace and in missions, evaluation tools for that practice and some practical steps for moving forward with establishing the practice.

Muslims are in our communities here at home already. Are we willing to send people to an Islamic mission field who have never shared the gospel with a Muslim before? - The 21st century local church sees itself more and more as a primary player in the world of international missions. At the same time, partnerships of many types have also become an important part of missions today. This workshop is designed for local church leaders AND mission professionals that guide them. We’ll be discussing how church partnerships can reflect the values of the Kingdom of God and missional theology, as well as incorporating a process that is true to those values. For the past 10+ years, I’ve helped churches discover a way of partnering together that rings true with the values of the Kingdom of God and missional theology. I’m passionate about sharing these principles whenever possible with those who can help the global body of Christ be all that Jesus prayed it would be as a unified force and a witness to the reality of the Kingdom of God.
Jenny Collins | Friday, 3:30 PM | Preparing Short-termMission Leaders to Reduce Risk and Respond Well in Crises
- STM goers want to courageously share Christ in word and action around the globe. Yet, we are not guaranteed safety and there are risks associated with all travel. Obedience to God’s call took Jesus’ disciples straight into dangerous situations. In the spirit of Matt. 10:16 and being “as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves,” this workshop will discuss biblical guiding principles for approaching risk, and how team leaders can reduce risk and prepare for on-field crises with excellence and appropriate concern, but not needless anxiety. We’ll explore planning for and responding to various types of events and emergencies.
Jolene Erlacher | Saturday, 9:15 AM | Understanding and Leading Generation Z in Short-Term Missions
- Short attention spans, addiction to technology, and lack of interpersonal skills are a few of the descriptors used to describe teenagers and college students today. Generation Z is also incredibly creative, pragmatic and diverse. As we engage them in short-term missions, it is critical to understand their communication and learning styles, perspectives on the world, and unique skills. Attendees will identify key characteristics of young people today, and strategies on how to partner together as agencies and churches to develop effective processes and guidelines for this unique generation. Attendees will also be able to recognize and apply methods for leading and teaching Generation Z for maximum learning, growth and service on a STM.
Bob Klamser | Saturday, 9:15 AM | Crisis Management for Short-term Teams
- Are you a short-term mission leader, missions pastor, or organizational leader that sends or receives short-term teams? If so, are you prepared to manage a crisis event that may arise? In this session we will explore the key principles, challenges and options for managing some of the more prevalent crises that may occur while on a short-term mission. We will discuss ways to be prepared in advance, as well as mitigate events that do occur. In short, we will look at ways to be the best possible stewards of our most valuable “assets”, our people, from a crisis management and security standpoint.
Registration includes attendance at all general conference sessions and workshops, plus meals and breaks as shown on the conference schedule. Breakfast is on your own. You must arrange your own accommodations at the Caribe Royale.

- Student Discount: Thursday or Friday only = $99 | Full conference = $199. These rates are available for undergraduate students who are attending classes full-time. The student rate includes attendance at all sessions, plus food and beverage for the designated time period purchased. Caribe Royale is approximately 22 miles from the Orlando International Airport ( 35 minutes travel time).
For ground transportation between the airport and hotel we recommend CityOne Xpress. CityOne Xpress will group reservations to create a shared ride wherever possible, BUT you will only be sharing with other guests coming to the Mission Leader’s Conference. Unlike the other shuttle services in the area, CityOne will go directly from the airport to the Caribe Royal – our conference hotel.
