Deaf-Owned Translation Team Facilitator

Wycliffe Associates is looking for Deaf Christians who have a heart for reaching the global Deaf community with God’s Word.  Our Deaf Owned Translation (DOT) program enables Deaf Christians to translate and film the Bible into their own sign language. Through the methodology of DOT, we are able to help Deaf communities to translate the Word of God in a way that is accurate, clear, understandable, and for the first time, accessible in their heart language. Using this Bible translation method, one deaf community in India has already translated and recorded the entire New Testament into their own Marathi Sign Language, but there are still over 400 sign languages without scripture.

The Deaf community is neglected around the world, and this is especially true in Bible translation. Until just this year, American Sign Language was the only sign language that had a complete New Testament—and there is still no full sign language Bible anywhere in the world!

We need you!  Currently, the DOT program is reaching over twenty sign languages globally. This program continues to have more opportunities, but in order to grow and reach additional language groups, we need more Deaf team members. As a DOT team member, you will need to be able to travel overseas for our two-week workshops and work closely with the Deaf national translators. You will work with the team leaders to teach the translation methodology and provide help and encouragement to the translators when they need it. Eventually, we hope that you will be able to lead workshops yourself and even help us reach out to new language groups that need scripture.  For this role, you will need to know ASL.

Position Summary:

This is a non-paid, volunteering role, at a non-profit Bible translation organization.  The candidate does have the option to raise financial support through church networks.  As travel is required for this role, Wycliffe Associates will cover all travel costs.  This is a remote position and requires about 32-40 hours of service per week.
