Spoiler Alert! This is not a “missionary biography,” at least, not in the traditional sense. The author does not write about Betsey Stockton as an admirer of Christian missions. Rather, he sees her as an admirable woman who served as a missionary for a little more than two years in the “Sandwich Islands” (Hawaii). However, the book does deal with cross-cultural issues regarding ethnicity and prejudice that she faced during her 60-plus year lifetime.
