Job Purpose & Summary
The Vice President of Operations plays a critical role in advancing World Gospel Mission’s objectives by overseeing the various operational aspects of the organization. The person filling this position will ensure that WGM operates according to sound and efficient legal, financial, and business processes. He/she is responsible for overseeing the financial statements, investments, and the external audit processes. He/she will manage the financial risk for the organization, and in collaboration with the President, help shape the strategic use of the funds entrusted to the organization to further advance WGM’s mission.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Enhance operational efficiency by promoting a positive organizational culture that is characterized by high employee morale, excellence, innovation, communication and collaboration, continual improvement, and a focus on mission outcomes.   
  2. Provide oversight and administrative management for the Finance department, including accounts payable, payroll, donor receipting and deposits, field accounting, investments, property insurance, and internal controls and compliance.
  3. Ensure the preparation of an annual budget for WGM and present the proposed budget to the Board of Directors for approval at the October board meeting.
  4. Monitor financial performance, bringing pertinent financial issues to the attention of the President, and as needed, assist the President in reporting such issues to the Executive Team and the Board of Directors of WGM.
  5. Provide oversight of the annual audit preparation, present audited financial statements to the Audit Committee of the Board, and then to the full Board of Directors at the October board meeting.
  6. Provide oversight of the physical assets of the organization including land, buildings, and equipment to minimize the cost of acquiring, operating, maintaining, and renewing those assets.
  7. Ensure the organization’s compliance with state and federal tax laws and regulations.
  8. Provide oversight of the Abbott Center Guesthouse rentals including budget and housekeeping so that missionaries and guests have a comfortable place to stay while traveling or training.
  9. Serve on organization committees including Executive Team, Retirement and Investment Committee, Fairhaven South board, Finance Commission, and Audit Committee as a financial representative.
  10. Serve as the Secretary of the WGM and Fairhaven South, Inc. corporations who is authorized to sign all legal documents of the organization, including annual corporate reports for various states.
  11. Provide oversight for Fairhaven South, Inc., ensuring that the lease agreement for Oaks at Avon is followed, all legal requirements of the corporation are met, and the lease funds flow through to the parent corporation (WGM).
  12. Provide supervision of legal counsel and their work.  In addition, work with legal counsel to dispose of any donated assets as soon as possible after receipt.
  13. Visit WGM ministry locations as a representative of the organization to build rapport with missionaries and national partners to gain an understanding of field financial issues.
  14. Supervise direct reports:  Treasurer/Director of Finance, Assistant to the Vice President of Finance, Director of Information Services, Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds, Abbott Center Coordinator.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned by the President.

Special Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, MBA or a related degree; Master’s preferred.
  2. A minimum of 10 years of financial experience, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior management role

  3. Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  4. Strong team building and management skills to keep team members motivated, informed and on the same page.
  5. Preferred background with missions/cross-cultural experience.
  6. This person should reflect WGM’s philosophical concept for human services, which are motived by a personal commitment to Christian service.
  7. Personally committed to and live out WGM’s statement of faith.
