Day 18 – Safiya

This devotional is part of the Black Missionary Heroes Past and Present Series.

Safiya (pseudonym)

Missionary to Eurasia

Read Luke 15:3–7

Safiya hadn’t been on the Eurasian mission field very long before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. After the long and difficult journey to get on the mission field, it seemed like the door to share the gospel was closing. Safiya found herself in quarantine, enduring the state-ordered lockdown caused by the pandemic response. What kept her on the field? How did she sustain a positive attitude and not sink into depression? By leading a Muslim woman to the Lord! In the weeks that followed, Safiya’s written updates – despite the prayer points and trials – were imbued with the joy of a heavenly praise. This new babe in Christ was growing and got baptized! Real joy for Safiya was walking alongside this newfound sister in Christ through discipleship. She says, “in spite of the ups and downs, Jesus is worth it all!”
