2017 Accounting and Financial Reporting Update (FM)

This session will present recent accounting pronouncements affecting financial reporting for nonprofit entities, with a focus on key elements and implementation issues of the FASB Accounting Standards Update 2016-14 Presentation of Financial Statements of Not-for-Profit Entities.

Learning Objectives:
  • Identify the most recent accounting pronouncements, their purpose and key principles, and the impact they will have on financial reporting for nonprofit entities
  • Explain the key elements and provisions of the new financial reporting model for nonprofit entities, including how restricted net asset will be presented, the focus on operations in the statement of activities, new disclosures about liquidity and more
  • Assess implementation issues and consider examples of how those may be addressed.

Dale Larson

Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS)

Dale has been at DTS since 2009. He is responsible for all financial matters at the school. Previously he spent 13 years at the University of Dallas as associate vice president for finance. Dale has a degree in business administration from the University of Nebraska and has a CMA credential. He is a member of the FASB’s Not-for-Profit Resource Group. He served on NACUBO’s Accounting Principles Council from 2004 to 2010. Dale received NACUBO’s Daniel D. Robinson Award in 2007 for his leadership in university accounting and reporting.
