Summary
The book “aims to tell the journey of the Bible in China through a range of Bible missions the Lord has miraculously performed among the registered churches” (page xv), as a reference to the Chinese Protestant Churches under the umbrella organization of the Chinese Christian Council/Three-Self Patriotic Movement. This journey began from the seventeenth century to the 1950s, through the cultural revolution (1966–1976), the Open Door policy from 1979 afterwards, and up to the present. The stories include a Bible press in China, Bible distribution, Braille Bibles for the blind, Bible translation and ministry for ethnic minority people, and other Bible mission efforts for the family, seminary teachers and students, pastors and lay preachers—impacting churches, society, contextualization, and inculturation of Christianity in China. The book is “based largely on firsthand accounts and testimonies from the archives, records, and reports” (page xv) of the Union Bible Societies (UBS) China ministry from 1985 to 2022, including interviews conducted by the author.
