The Next Step began in late 1996 and early 1997 in response to concerns raised in the book, Too Valuable To Lose (ed, William D. Taylor, WEA, 1997), which cited lack of training as a significant contributor to missionary attrition. Once a person feels a call to serve cross culturally, “the next step” is training for effective missionary service, and that’s how the partnership received its name.
The Great Commission is too big
for anyone to accomplish alone
and too important
not to try to do together.
Our vision is to see missional leaders accelerating the fulfillment of the Great Commission in servant partnership with the church globally.
Our mission is to advance the effectiveness of the Great Commission community in North America in global mission.
The rich and diverse history of Missio Nexus gives us a strong foundation. And in coming together with you, we embrace the unity promise of Psalm 133, “For there the LORD bestows his blessing,” and the unity prayer of Jesus in John 17, “so that the world may believe.”
We invite you to join us on this journey as we explore the possibilities God is opening before us for shared learning, collaborative action and increased effectiveness through Missio Nexus.
As of June 1, 2015, please welcome Ted Esler as the new president and CEO of Missio Nexus.
“After an extensive search, we are grateful that God led us to select Ted,” says Warren Janzen, board chair of Missio Nexus and international director of SEND International. “Not only is he a creative and critical thinker, he’s got a passion for the gospel and for local churches around the world. As a fellow mission leader, I appreciate that he has the track record to match what we need for the next season of Missio Nexus.”
Ted succeeds Steve Moore, who has served Missio Nexus since 2006 and who announced last year that he would resign this June to return to ministry focused on developing young leaders.
“I couldn’t be more enthusiastic about passing the baton to Ted,” says Steve. “He is a top-notch leader, and I have every confidence in his ability to strengthen the Great Commission influence of Missio Nexus.”
