Gen Z and Missions (2026)

This Missiographic explores how Gen Z believers perceive and engage with cross-cultural missions, drawing on responses from 440 aspiring missionaries and reflections from those already serving. The data reveals a generation deeply motivated by the salvation of others, spiritual guidance, and the opportunity to use their gifts—but also one that desires to be known, heard, and genuinely supported. Gen Z places high value on healthy teams, authentic spiritual coaching, mental health awareness, and clarity of calling and roles, while uncertainty, isolation, and lack of guidance remain significant barriers. For mission agencies and churches, understanding these perspectives is critical. The pathways we create, the messages we communicate, and the ways we position ourselves relationally will play a decisive role in whether this next generation chooses to engage in long-term, cross-cultural mission service
