The Head Writer / Managing Editor is responsible for the overall quality, consistency and timely delivery of all written content. This hybrid role involves maintaining editorial standards, managing the team of volunteer/contract writers, and serving as the final editorial gatekeeper. This role reports directly to the Communications Coordinator.
The Head Writer / Managing Editor serves as the key leader for all GlobalFingerprints written content. This role works closely with the Director of Communications and Communications Coordinator to execute the GlobalFingerprints Communications Operational Plan, Content Calendar and other key deliverables.
Part-time position (support raised or volunteer), requiring approximately 10 hours per week, with flexibility around editorial deadlines.

- Teams Participating on: GF Communications, Church Engagement
- Teams Leading: writers
Requirements:
- Experience as a managing editor or head writer (or similar role)
- Experience leading part-time or volunteer team
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and keen eye for detail, grammar, and style
- Strong organizational and project management abilities
- Capable of tracking multiple assignments and deadlines simultaneously
- Proficiency in project management software, willing to learn and use Monday.com, the team’s project management software
- Some experience with Adobe InDesign would be ideal
- Passion for storying telling
Responsibilities:
- Editorial Leadership and Strategy
- Maintain and continue to develop the GlobalFingerprints style guide, tone and voice across all written platforms (e.g., blogs, newsletters, website, scripts).
- Serve as the final reviewer and editor for all significant written content, ensuring accuracy, clarity and adherence to strategic messaging. Director of Communications has the final sign off.
- Work closely with the Communications Coordinator to ensure all writing assignments align with the master content calendar and deadlines.
- Writer Management and Production
- Assign projects and articles to the team of part-time volunteer and contract Writers.
- Provide clear creative briefs, deadlines and constructive feedback to Writers to improve their drafts.
- Help the Communications Coordinator onboard new Writers by providing training on style guides and content submission processes.
- Content Creation
- Serve as the primary writer for critical, high-profile or time-sensitive communications (e.g., annual reports, high-level press releases).
- Line-edit, proofread, and format final drafts, ensuring they are publication-ready.
