Summary
This book uses the whole Bible to inform the understanding of the mission of God and the mission of God’s people with the goal that God’s people “participate in the purposes of God across a wide spectrum of human life and with a large horizon of biblical vision and hope” (pages ix-x). To do this, the book traces from Genesis to Revelation this great story as a drama of seven acts (creation, rebellion, promise, Christ, mission, judgment, and new creation). The author then discusses the Great Commission and presents five marks of mission (evangelism, teaching, compassion, justice, and responsible use and care of creation) with the lordship of Christ as the center of this mission. After expounding these marks, the book ends with three thoughts that shape the theology and practice of mission (God’s whole mission is for God’s whole church, the whole church’s mission includes every church member, and every church member’ mission includes the whole of life).
