According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) the US Healthcare System reached $3.8T or $11,582 per person in 2019. That represented a whopping 17.7% of total GDP in the US. Needless to say the US Healthcare System is a bohemoth of an industry that touches every person both in the US and around the world. Sadly, while innovations do commonly happen in healthcare delivery, there has been a dearth of innovation when it comes to the insurance programs that supply the majority of the funding to hospitals, doctors, and pharmacies.
