Job Description Summary:
Serving as an integral member of Hines Ugandan Ministries (HUM), the Managing Director (MD) will be responsible for managing the business and operational functions of the Ugandan based non-government organization, Hines Ugandan Ministries. The Managing Director will contribute to the advancement of the organization’s overall strategic goals, policies, and procedures. This seasoned leader will mentor and develop ministry directors and managers to help the team reach their full leadership potential. The Managing Director will focus on programmatic management, efficiency, financial integrity, and new program development, as well as ensure excellence in the overall quality of services provided to HUM’s beneficiaries. The position reports directly to the US based Executive Director.
General Qualifications:
- Must demonstrate a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, maintain active membership in an evangelical church congregation, and demonstrate a strong understanding of biblical concepts and worldview.

- Demonstrate quality Christian character and integrity as well as loyalty to Christ and the ministry.
- Demonstrate strong personal boundaries and confidentiality as described in ministry policies.

- Demonstrate a good understanding and commitment to the vision and goals of the ministry.
- Ability to establish positive relationships with national staff and the community.
- Willing and able to participate in fundraising efforts for the ministry.
- Must have a call to full-time international mission’s administration, understanding the vision in all ways.
- Possess an undergraduate degree in a business field of study or demonstrate equivalent work experience.
- Possess meaningful experience in personnel management, developing and conducting staff training, developing, and implementing financial and operational systems for small businesses or ministry.
- Demonstrate good organization, time management, self-discipline, and self-direction.
- Possess the ability to work as a team member.
- Demonstrate the ability to work within the prescribed channels of communication and protocol within the HUM organization and the ability to communicate effectively.
- Possesses an ability and willingness to learn and live in Ugandan culture and to lead with sensitivity to the culture while implementing effective change.
- Demonstrate excellent writing and computer skills, including Microsoft Office, and a basic understanding of QuickBooks. Candidate should continually work to remain current with technology advancements.
- Must have knowledge and experience with bookkeeping, financial management, and budgets.
- Ability to work with staff in all phases of operations.
- Ability to develop and execute a strategic plan.
- Ability to counsel and guide and yet leave room for the development of wholesome and creative participation and contribution of staff.
- Ability to delegate and share responsibilities with other personnel as the situation requires.
- Ability to take overall responsibility for the development and administration of the organizations vision and goals.

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Develop and recommend to the HUM Board policies and procedures that maximize organizational efficiency and then implement approved policies and procedure.
- Supervise program directors and managers for each department. This will include developing structure and communication that provides maximum efficiency and effectiveness for each program. Train and work alongside each of the program managers as needed to develop them to their full potential.
- Develop and manage field human resource policies and procedures. Work to establish meaningful employee evaluations and an evaluation schedule. Develop written performance goals, and objectives for ministry leaders to ensure HUM’s performance and programmatic goals are met. Work with program managers and supervisors to ensure that timely evaluations of their staff are performed.
- Work to determine staffing needs.
- Provide effective stewardship of the HUM Uganda budget, and approve expenses as outlined by agency policy. Follow financial allocations as determined with the Executive Director.
- Evaluate the current cash management policies and procedures and recommend and implement improvements. Manage field cash within the guidelines of the HUM budget. Assist the Field Accountant /Finance Manager with data entry and management of field books as needed.
- The Managing Director will assume the responsibilities even when he/she is not in the country, with the help of the Senior Director of Sponsorship and Finance Manager.
- Complete other duties as they may be assigned by the government of Uganda or the Board of Directors.
- Complete all necessary government reports and filing on time according to the rules and laws of the country.
- Along with the Executive Director, develop a budget for the field and submit it to the Board of Directors.
- Make sure that bank statements, and books are balanced every month, by each operating account.
- Analyze existing programs and make recommendations for increased effectiveness, and research and develop potential new programs. Seek regular feedback and input from team members at all levels.
- Ensure the HUM Uganda staff implements their responsibilities to meet HUM programmatic goals.
- Develop and maintain systems and metrics for monitoring and evaluating HUM programs and staff in Uganda.
- Analyze and report to the Executive Director and the HUM Board on HUM program data in support of organizational goals.
- Communicate with the Executive Director and HUM board on a regular basis about ministries, needs, staff, and progress.
- Oversee and supervise the HUM Uganda staff.
- Train and develop all staff, identifying performance targets as needed.
- Manage administrative records to maintain accurate information.
- Write reports on operational and financial standing and communicate with the HUM Board.
- Schedule and lead staff meetings as needed and work to keep positive staff morale.
- Oversee the schedule coordination of mission teams visiting the ministry.
- Travel to USA as needed for fundraising initiatives determined by the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
Eligibility: Ugandan nationals (or those with an extensive professional background and work history in Uganda) are preferred.
Salary and Benefits:
Commensurate with experience.
