A Brief Overview
MAF’s Member Care Specialist provides, prepares, equips, strengthens, and empowers MAF staff for an effective life and service within MAF. This position also promotes spiritually healthy and caring fellowship as an essential part of the work of MAF so that the Gospel is proclaimed and God’s Kingdom is extended.
Essential Duties
- Participation
o Engages personnel in dialog to address stress and personal challenges related to nontechnical well being
o Facilitates debriefs for field staff on furlough, as well as HQ staff on a case-by-case basis. In addition, may be responsible to facilitate field based critical incident debriefs when necessary
o Participates and coaches staff in handling of situations that are emotionally charged (e.g. grief, conflict, death, transition)
o Works with staff to promote personal, other, and God awareness
o Assists field staff and leadership in developing a sense of team and togetherness
o Participates in the development of a treatment or follow-up plan when outside resources are needed to appropriately care for staff and their families
o Travels to MAF fields to offer encouragement to staff families - Preparation
o Develops, executes, and revises Candidacy and Orientation workshops and classes
o Builds and maintains relationships with resourcing organizations and counselors outside of MAF
o Develops resources that will inform, cultivate, and promote awareness of the personal responsibility facet of care
o Engages personally in spiritual practices - Teaching, Training, and Coaching
o Participates in Candidacy and Orientation classes
o Interacts with staff for the purpose of providing support in areas such as physical, emotional, and spiritual well being
o Works with staff members home churches to offer input on how to care for their church members as they live and work overseas
o Remains available to field leadership to provide support and input when needed to handle issues
o Participates in training that informs and builds on the level and quality of care for other MAF staff - Evaluation
o Assesses, promotes, and encourages personal responsibility for one’s spiritual health
o Recommends or facilitates the provision of outside member care services when appropriate
o Reviews organizational policies from a department perspective, to provide input regarding the impact and workability of policies, current, being proposed or revised
