Director of Development

The Development Director is responsible for the development and implementation of strategic plans to raise funds for InterAct’s ministries. Duties include overseeing and managing fundraising efforts, building strong and successful relationships, maintaining communications with donors and friends and collaborating with staff to effectively execute fundraising events.

  • Supervisory Responsibilities
    Reports to the executive director
  • Member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT)
  • Works closely with senior leadership
  • Supervises development volunteers

Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
The Development Director is responsible to:

1.       Plan and execute an annual calendar of development efforts

2.       Create/coordinate opportunities to give partners—both current and prospective—ways to be directly involved with InterAct’s ministries

3.       Plan and execute fundraising special events

4.       Cultivate major donor participation

5.       Create direct mail appeals, including package design and copy writing

6.       Write grant requests for foundation consideration

7.       Design and implement appropriate thank you efforts for InterAct partners

8.       Meet with publications team for input into InterACTION, brochures, etc.

9.       Identify prospective individual and corporate donors and develop strategies to cultivate those relationships

10.   Maintain ongoing communications with private and corporate donors

11.   Keep abreast of current donor relation strategies of other non-profit organizations/ministries

12.   Ensure timely and accurate report deliveries to funders

Spiritual Qualifications
·   Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ

·   Regularly attend and participate in an evangelical church

·   Agree with and adhere to InterAct’s Statement of Faith, policies and practices

·   Have a lifestyle–current and ongoing–that is in compliance with InterAct’s Standards of Christian Life and Ministry and reflective of a mature and consistent Christian commitment and walk with the Lord

·   Demonstrate a working knowledge of Scripture and the ability to apply it in life situations

Required Education, Experience, Skills and/or Competencies
·   Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Communications or related field

·   2+ years’ effective fundraising experience

·   Significant experience interfacing with foundations

·   Grant writing experience

·   Able to work with people from across a spectrum of evangelical positions and practices

·   Demonstrate the ability to connect with and relate to all generations and people in various settings

·   Have an understanding of cross-cultural ministry issues

·   Experience and knowledge in event planning

·   Excellent written, interpersonal and verbal communication skills

·   A self-starter; proactive in initiating activities

·   A team player, but also able to work without direct supervision

·   Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite

·   Experience using donor management software

Work Environment
Most of the time, this position requires working at a desk using a computer and viewing a monitor, with significant time conversing on the phone. It may also involve travel, usually via commercial flying and/or driving, to various locations in the U.S. that often involves lodging in hotels and possibly homes.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position requires the ability to travel via car/van and commercial aircraft.
