Mission Catalyst Among Iranian Muslims in Metro New York
Global Gates
While many of Metro New York City’s larger immigrant communities are heavily concentrated in particular neighborhoods forming ethnic enclaves, Iranians on the other hand are more spread out, forming a cultural thread that weaves its way from North Jersey to Manhattan, throughout Brooklyn, and even into Long Island. Perhaps even more significantly, this cultural thread stretches back into Iran. Most speak English well and have a high level of assimilation. For those serving among this community, this poses both challenges and opportunities. It will be important to recognize that Iranian Persians in NYC form a socially-connected community rather than a geographical enclave.
