Presented by: Steve Hawthorne
Our secularized environment encourages people, young and old, to see themselves as compassionate, selfless heroes. While our personal identity narratives consist of brief episodes of altruistic kindness that usually center on our story, making us hesitant and tentative to commit to be a part of a larger, longer story. Our “Moralistic Therapeutic Deism” calls for a “Moralistic Altruistic Heroism,” in which we see ourselves as compassionate heroes at the center of the story. We’ll describe five operative models of mission, showing how they align with four ways of approaching the work of mobilization. We’ll offer practical ways 1) to recognize and analyze operative ideas of mission; 2) to evaluate different approaches to mobilization; and 3) to identify ways of mobilizing that call people to serve with Christ in His global, multi-millennial mission.
Primary Audience: Mobilizers, pastors, recruiters, mission executives
