SUMMARY:Impact With Integrity: Ethical Storytelling for Global Missions
DESCRIPTION:If your work involves stories of poverty\, crisis\, persecution\, or cross-cultural ministry\, you’ve likely felt the internal pull between “what will raise money” and “what feels ethical.” Many Christian organizations also face the added challenge of serving in restricted or sensitive contexts where names\, faces\, locations\, and breakthroughs cannot be publicly shared. This webinar provides a framework for communicating impact without exploitation or unnecessary security risk – helping nonprofits balance fundraising needs\, ethical storytelling\, and real-world field constraints. \nParticipants will learn tools for moving beyond poverty porn\, western hero narratives\, and sensationalism\, and toward messaging that protects vulnerable communities\, honors indigenous leaders\, and builds long-term donor trust. \nThis webinar is designed for communications\, marketing\, and development staff serving global missions\, international development\, or ministry to vulnerable populations. \nIt is especially relevant for organizations working in:\n-Restricted or sensitive countries\n-Relief & development\n-Mission mobilization\n-Indigenous ministry partnerships\n-Persecution & human rights advocacy\n-Poverty alleviation\n-Refugee/migrant ministries \nAnd for comms teams that are navigating:\n-Global audiences\n-Younger donor expectations\n-Shifts toward indigenous leadership\n-Cross-cultural storytelling\n-Digital media & long tail record concerns \nParticipants will learn:\n-The common ethical pitfalls in nonprofit storytelling (poverty porn\, saviorism\, tokenization\, donor-centric narratives\, sensationalism\, etc.)\n-How to communicate about suffering\, poverty\, persecution\, or closed nations without exploitation\n-The theological and missiological rationale for dignity-centered storytelling\n-Messaging frameworks that shift from “we bring Jesus” to “we join Jesus at work”\n-How indigenous partners and global audiences can perceive Western messaging\n-Ways to maintain fundraising effectiveness without resorting to harm\n-Photo\, consent\, and child-protection considerations for global media\n-How to educate donors rather than simply indulge donor appetites\n-How to push back or say no to harmful requests from leadership\, boards\, or donors\n-Case studies of improved messaging and ethical storytelling practices \nPresenter: \nClarissa Sidhom brings nearly 20 years of communications experience\, primarily with nonprofits and ministries serving marginalized and vulnerable communities. She is Director of Communications at VisionSynergy and also provides strategic communications consulting through Tapestry Creative Agency\, helping organizations craft dignity-centered narratives that inspire engagement and trust. \n  \nMissio Nexus encourages interaction on diverse and difficult topics. SUMMARY:Employing Foreign Workers Overseas: Tips and Traps
DESCRIPTION:When carrying out work overseas\, what options are there when an organization wants to implement its work through non-US citizens (and those who lack a US work visa)? This workshop will provide an overview of some options an organization may choose\, including use of an EOR (employer of record) company\, working via MOU with a local partner organization\, and registering to do business in the foreign country (whether as a foreign corporation or by forming a new entity). \nParticipants will:\n(1) Understand the different staffing options when implementing work abroad through international staff\n(2) Assess the pros/cons of the different approaches as they play out in different local contexts \nThis is ideal for those responsible for implementing overseas work carried out by non-US staff. \nPresenter: \nJosh Heidelman is a partner at the firm Castañeda + Heidelman LLP. His approach is informed by his breadth of experience\, which includes several years in private practice at AmLaw 100 firms followed by nearly seven years as General Counsel for a major global nonprofit. This combination of experience brings together the benefits of an in-house veteran with a hands-on litigator who has taken cases all the way through trial and appeal. He regularly advises international ministry nonprofits on matters including employment\, corporate structure\, risk\, and IRS and OFAC compliance. \n  \n  \n  \nMissio Nexus encourages interaction on diverse and difficult topics. SUMMARY:How to Multiply Training Results With Coaching
DESCRIPTION:People don’t fail to change because they lack information. They fail because they lack ongoing support for implementation. This workshop will change your training from information events into lasting transformation.\nYou’ll learn:\n• Why is what we’ve been doing not working and how can we change?\n• Why and how should sending organizations intentionally invest in coaching their workers?\n• How can organizations strategically connect coaching and training in order to generate much better results for the well-being and productivity of our workers? \nStudies have shown that training events produce an average of only 23% behavioral increase toward the training objectives (see Olivero). If coaching follows training\, the behavioral results increase to 88%. \nWhy? To use the old phrase\, “Change is not an announcement.” People are complex and have competing values and emotions. We can intellectually agree that behaving differently would be good and learn some techniques to do so\, but our emotions\, ambiguity tolerance\, personal habits\, social skills\, beliefs\, and values can get in the way of us doing it. Overcoming these obstacles is where coaching shines. \nEffective personal and professional development often combine both approaches: group training to establish what needs to be done\, and then individual coaching to support how it’s applied in the participant’s specific context. \nSource: Olivero\, Bane & Kopelmann; Public Personnel Management; Washington; Winter 1997; ISSN:00910260 \nPresenter: \nKeith E. Webb\, D.Min.\, PCC is President of Creative Results Management\, with 200+ hours of International Coach Federation-approved leadership courses for Christian leaders. He designed The COACH Model® and The Coaching Mastery Certificate Program. \nFor 20 years he lived in Asia – Japan\, Indonesia\, and Singapore. He is author of the best-selling books\, The COACH Model for Christian Leaders and Coaching in Ministry. SUMMARY:Peer2Peer Virtual Discipleship Series - Help! My Pastor Doesn't Seem to Care About Missions!
DESCRIPTION:Carlos Negrón of Missio Nexus and Matthew Ellison of 16:15 will be joined by special guests (to be announced) to discuss a challenge that many mission leaders quietly face: “Help! My Pastor Does Not Seem to Care About Missions!” \nAcross churches of all sizes and traditions\, mission advocates often feel the tension of trying to cultivate a global vision when pastoral leadership appears disengaged or overwhelmed. Sometimes the issue is a lack of clarity about what missions truly are. Other times\, it is competing priorities\, limited bandwidth\, previous negative experiences\, or simply not knowing where to begin. Whatever the reason\, the result is the same. A mission team or passionate individual is eager to move forward\, but the pastoral support they need feels distant or uncertain.\nSo the question becomes: What now? How do you honor your leaders\, maintain unity\, and still help your church embrace a heart for the nations? How do you build trust and alignment when it feels like missions is low on your pastor’s list? And what practical steps actually help a pastor grow in conviction\, not just in awareness?\nIn this conversation\, we will explore the root causes behind pastoral disengagement\, the common mistakes mission leaders make when trying to “sell” missions\, and the approaches that truly foster partnership\, clarity\, and shared vision. You will walk away with practical tools that strengthen relationships and open new pathways for global engagement in your church. \nPresenters: \nMaegan Gahima has served as the Missions Director at Parkway Wesleyan Church since 2020. Prior to that\, she lived in East Africa and worked with gospel centered non profit organizations focused on community health and development. She met and married her husband Emma while serving in Africa\, and they now live her hometown of Roanoke\, VA with their three children. Maegan holds a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from Virginia Tech. Over the past 100 years\, Parkway Church has grown in their global missions involvement\, but 2025 was a turning point. After spending a year refining their missions strategy with the help of 1615 Outfitters\, Parkway’s leadership team decided to prioritize The Great Commission\, making it the heart of their mission and vision. \n  \n  \nDustin Spencer has faithfully served Parkway Wesleyan Church since 2010 and currently serves as the church’s Lead Pastor and provides leadership to the staff team. He holds a Master of Arts in Theology from Liberty University and is committed to helping Parkway grow as a Christ-centered church rooted in discipleship. Dustin and his wife\, Carynn\, have been partners in ministry since their marriage in 2006 and are grateful to serve alongside their two sons as part of the Parkway church family. Parkway Wesleyan Church has a strong heart for missions and outreach\, both locally and globally. The church is excited to move forward with a new missions strategy designed to mobilize the congregation\, strengthen partnerships\, and create meaningful opportunities to serve the community and beyond. Together\, Parkway is energized by what God is doing and looks forward to faithfully advancing the mission of Jesus with unity\, vision\, and hope to the nations. \n  \n  \nMissio Nexus encourages interaction on diverse and difficult topics. SUMMARY:Beyond Retention: Equipping Global Workers to Thrive\, Impact\, and Endure
DESCRIPTION:Retention is often used as the primary metric for missionary success\, yet staying on the field is not the same as being effective or healthy. In an era where 47% of workers leave the field within their first five years\, how do we bridge the gap between “going” and “enduring”? \nJoin us for an inside look at a training model developed in Western Asia that moves beyond mere retention. We will discuss why the goal of training must shift from surviving to thriving\, and how integrating spiritual vitality\, relational maturity\, and ministry effectiveness creates workers who don’t just stay\, but complete their mission in hard contexts. \nThis webinar is designed for Mission Agency Leaders\, Mobilizers\, and Church Missions Pastors who are responsible for the pre-field preparation and long-term care of global workers. It is especially relevant for those sending workers into “hard” contexts where traditional support systems are limited. \nParticipants will explore a holistic framework for missionary formation that balances academic rigor with real-world immersion. Key takeaways include:\n1. Redefining Success: Moving the metric from “Years on the Field” (Retention) to “Mission Completion” (Effectiveness).\n2. The Three Pillars of Readiness: How to intentionally develop Spiritual Vitality\, Relational Maturity\, and Ministry Effectiveness before a worker ever reaches their long-term destination.\n3. The “Lab” Model of Training: How a rhythm of classroom theory\, community engagement\, and veteran mentorship creates a sustainable “field-ready” lifestyle.\n4. Collaboration Over Isolation: Identifying how agencies and local churches can partner with specialized training centers to fill the “equipping gap.” \nPresenter: \nBarry and Ruth Rempel have been engaged in global ministry for nearly 40 years. During this time\, God has led them through a wide range of locations and ministries including church planting\, teaching and leadership development in Europe\, Latin America and North America. Barry also has extensive experience in ministry leadership and strategic planning. Most recently\, Barry & Ruth have been focused on training and mentoring the next generation of global workers in Western Asia. \nBarry’s background includes an M.A. degree (evangelism and church planting) and a DMin (organizational leadership). He serves Safir as Program Coordinator and an instructor in a variety of courses such as Intercultural Communication and Global Ministry Team Dynamics. Ruth participates in event planning and program support. Among many things\, Barry & Ruth enjoy motorcycle rides and visiting museums\, but nothing beats spending time with their 4 grandchildren…oh\, and their two daughters and sons-in-law as well!! \n  \nMissio Nexus encourages interaction on diverse and difficult topics. SUMMARY:Grounding Your Innovation Work in a Spiritual Framework
DESCRIPTION:This is Part 3 of a 3-part series on Innovation. Register for one\, two\, or all three! \nPart 1: recording for this past webinar: Freeing Up Time for Innovation – Missio Nexus\nPart 2: Innovating Through Collaboration – Missio Nexus \nIf you have struggled to connect your faith with your innovation work and wonder how the two integrate\, this webinar will give you a framework to practice disciplined innovation in a way that is honoring to our Savior. Many times we use different tools and strategies in our ministry work without considering how they integrate with our Biblical worldview and spiritual disciplines. One of the reasons it can be so hard to innovate in our various mission contexts is that we don’t take the time to align our values with the tactics and tools we deploy. Explore the deep intersection of innovation and spirituality and learn how to practice disciplined innovation that aligns with Kingdom approaches. \nIf you are a missiologist\, innovation practitioner\, leader\, field staff\, or anyone who is wanting to practice innovation in a spiritually centered way this event will help guide your way. \nPresenters: \nPaul Dzubinski is a deeply experienced and innovative leader in religious and missionary work\, currently serving as the Innovation Catalyst at Frontier Ventures and the Director of the Winter Launch Lab. A strong focus on pioneering methods of mission work has marked his career. Paul is known for his strategic and creative approach to mission work\, blending theological expertise with practical innovation to address complex challenges in spreading the gospel. His leadership at Frontier Ventures emphasizes developing culturally relevant methods to introduce Christianity to people unfamiliar with Jesus\, through both technological and relational innovations. He advocates for a transformative approach to mission work\, emphasizing the need for personal and communal spiritual growth as integral to effective evangelism. \nJon Hirst grew up in Argentina and Vene zuela as a missionary kid. Trained as communicators\, Jon and his wife Mindy have spent their career helping ministries and mission agencies to imagine a new future and design organizational structures and programs to move into what God has next for them. Jon has served in 30 countries with a diverse set of organizations including TEAM\, HCJB (now Reach Beyond)\, SIL International\, GMI\, Community Bible Study\, Missio Nexus\, SIM\, Africa Inland Mission\, Frontier Ventures\, and Avant. SUMMARY:Generative AI in Christian Evangelism
DESCRIPTION:A Peer-2-Peer Event for Communications and Marketing Professionals \nIn an age of unprecedented technological advancement\, those that endeavor to fulfill the Great Commission — Christ’s command to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19-20) — encounter both remarkable opportunities and unique challenges. Among these challenges are the dangers of misusing technology\, the ethical questions surrounding its application\, and its potential to amplify secular and anti-Christian ideologies. Yet\, these same advancements also provide the Church with unparalleled resources to reach the unreached\, ensuring that those who have never heard the gospel might finally have the opportunity (Romans 10:14-15). Digital platforms\, artificial intelligence\, and other technological innovations can serve as instruments for proclaiming Christ\, connecting with isolated communities\, and making disciples across the globe. \nParticipants will learn the theological case for the use of AI in digital evangelism\, as well as how it fits into the broader picture of how God has ordained the use of technology to further His Kingdom. Ministry leaders that are curious about how they can utilize conversational AI to help fulfill the Great Commission would be ideal participants. \nPresenter: Jake Carlson is a digital product development leader with 20+ years startup and Big Tech experience (Oracle & Apple) in software engineering\, UX\, and product management. He was a missionary kid in China and is now a Colson Fellow. Since founding The Apologist Project\, he has grown the part-time volunteer team to over a dozen regular contributors. \n  \n  \n  \n  \nMissio Nexus encourages interaction on diverse and difficult topics.
