Summary
This is a book about personal productivity in which the author makes the case and gives strategies to maximizing “deep work” in an environment which calls us to focus on “shallow work.” Deep work refers to work that information and knowledge professionals emphasize. Much like Drucker’s view that leaders should spend more time thinking and less time doing, Newport stresses the importance of deep work in a highly shallow and distracted connected world. After establishing the importance of deep work the author spends the balance of the book on strategies which can maximize deep work.
