Summary
The book seeks to provide a new vision for spiritual engagement, which can help readers “move away from feelings of fear and awkwardness and toward the freedom of letting your love for God spill into your everyday language” (page 16). The book proposes to do this through a shema (i.e., listen attentively and respond obediently) lifestyle, when God is at the center of everything Christ followers say and do (whether privately or publicly). This lifestyle is developed through shema statements, which can open doors for the gospel. Other helpful concepts on living out loud include prodigal farming (scattering more seed for greater opportunities for landing somewhere good) and collateral impact (spiritual conversations having the potential to ripple out in ways that affect people we do not even know).
