Day 4 – John Marrant
This devotional is part of the Black Missionary Heroes Past and Present Series.
John Marrant (1755–1791)
Missionary to Native Americans
Read Revelation 7:9–10
Born free in New York City and converted under the ministry of George Whitefield, Marrant became a missionary to Native Americans and one of America’s first black preachers. Having been rejected by his family because of his new-found faith, at the age of fourteen years old he wandered into the wilderness and was rescued by a Cherokee hunter. He ministered throughout Nova Scotia, played the French horn, and wrote three books about his missionary experiences.
